Android Apps of the Week! – December 4, 2011
Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 200,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.
So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.
Paper Zombie
By: WildBit Studios
Cost: FREE
Paper Zombie is a FREE fast action shooting game where your mission consists of facing challenging waves of zombies in relatively short but very exciting and intensive stages. Who doesn’t enjoy a good zombie game!? Check out the video below for a quick preview of what you can expect from this game:
Want to check it out for yourself? Just go to the “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “Paper Zombie”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore here for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]
Tablet Market
By: TabletApps
Cost: FREE
This little app is far from great, but it does something that the Android Market has yet to implement… a section for Tablet optimized apps. The Tablet Market app does a fairly good job of aggregating all the apps made specifically for Android Tablets and putting them all in one easy to access area. Fairly simple concept but it gets the job done and makes it easier for all you Tablet users using Honeycomb to find apps that were designed for your devices. [Market Link]
Snowfall Live Wallpaper
By: Kittehface Software
Cost: FREE
Snowfall Live Wallpaper is beautiful live wallpaper featuring gentle snowflakes falling overtop swaying pine trees. Kittehface is quickly becoming one of my favorite developers for Live Wallpapers. I constantly find myself switch back and forth between all of their Live Wallpapers. And this one is the latest that I’m really enjoying. Since I live in Florida, I sometimes forget what snow and winter actually feels like. So this Wallpaper reminds me of the beauty of snow without the real-life freezing effects!
Give it a try and see how great it looks on your Droid! In order to activate the wallpaper after installation, you have to go to: Home Screen->Click Menu Button->Wallpapers->Live Wallpapers and then select “Snowfall Free”. [Market Link]
ChannelCaster
By: OneLouder Apps
Cost: FREE
Discover, mash, and share new, sometimes unexpected news, gossip, local buzz, celebrity photos, viral videos and more. ChannelCaster allows you to build and share Channels with your friends or the entire community based on what interests you, resulting in an engaging experience. It takes a bit of getting used to but I really enjoy the user interface and the ability to get various news sources all aggregated into one app.
* Content from 1000s of sources like Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, news websites, and blogs.
* You define your topic, then aggregate and publish related, dynamic content into Channels, intended to amuse, educate, thrill, disturb, or inspire yourself and others.
* Browse preloaded programming, or Public Channels that have been created and published by other Casters.
