Android Apps of the Week! – February 26, 2012
Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 300,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.
So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.
The Oregon Trail: Settler
The Oregon Trail was one of my favorite childhood games. So finding out that newer versions are now available on the Android Market was a great surprise. In this game, the trail has been conquered and it’s time to settle the frontier. The goal is to build a wild west town and then help it prosper. The gameplay is simple and the graphics are great. Check out the video below for a quick glimpse into the gameplay:
Want to check it out for yourself? Just go to the “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “Oregon Trail Settler”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore here for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]

What will you look like when you’re old? And what about your friends? Find out with AgingBooth, an easy to use and amazing face aging machine on your Android device. AgingBooth is a funny (or scary!) way to instantly age face photos. Use AgingBooth on family, friends or colleagues photos and share them via email, MMS, FaceBook, Twitter. AgingBooth is like having a time machine on your Droid! It’s simple to use, just snap a picture of a friend, and then this app will add a “few” extra years to their faces. Check it out for yourself and see how many laughs you get! [Market Link]

Do you want to use your phone while you’re walking? Make your screen transparent! Now I know that walking and texting is not the smartest thing to do. But I know PLENTY of people that do it. So that is why I’m suggesting this app to my readers. If you are one of those people, this app may come in handy. Quit walking into walls! This app gives you the opportunity to use your phone as usual, while still being able to see the image of your camera transparently on the entire screen. Pretty cool idea if you ask me! [Market Link]
Do you like to customize the home screen on your Android UI? Do you enjoy simple but elegant designs? Minimalistic Text is a widget app that displays information in a minimalistic way. It can be configured to display time, date, battery and weather information. The layout of the widget is highly customizable through the layout editor. [Market Link]
