Android Apps of the Week! – February 27, 2011
Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 100,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.
So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.
By: Backflip Studios Inc.
Ninjump is one of my favorite games and believe me when I say that it is insanely addictive! In this fast paced ninja climbing game, your goal is to rise as high as you can while avoiding killer squirrels, angry birds, enemy ninjas, throwing stars and exploding bombs. With a simple tap you can jump from one wall to the other, knocking obstacles from the air as you do. The game gets increasingly difficult as you progress. Try to beat your highest score and you’ll find out why this game is so fun and addictive. TIP: Take down three enemies of the same kind to trigger mega-jump bonuses.
Just go to your “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “Ninjump”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore here for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]
Video Live Wallpaper
By: C.C.P. Cre@ions
This little gem is one of the coolest Live Wallpapers available on the Android Market. And I don’t think it gets enough attention! This app allows you to set your own video as a live wallpaper! Yes, you heard that correctly. You can load up any video on your device and have it play as the wallpaper on your device. How awesome is that?! You’ve got to give this one a try! It will definitely impress your friends. You need your own video to make this live wallpaper useful. Check out the app’s help section and visit the app’s website to learn what formats are best and to get sample videos. In order to activate the wallpaper after installation, you have to go to: Home Screen->Click Menu Button->Wallpapers->Live Wallpapers and then select “Video Live Wallpaper”. [Market Link]
ASTRO File Manager
This app is a very useful File Manager for your Android device. This is one of those apps that I consider a “Must Have”. Here are some of the things you can do with ASTRO:
•Manage all files on your SD card (copy, move, rename)
•Manage multiple files and directories at once
•Manage running applications
•Send files as attachments
•View thumbnails and images
•Browse and create compressed files like Zip and Tar
In short, this app allows you to easily manage all the files stored on your phone and SD card without having to connect it to your PC. [Market Link]
Google Sky Map
By: Google Inc.
Google Sky Map allows you to explore the universe from the palm of your hands. You can explore the galaxy with the swipe of a finger! Use the search feature to help you locate planets or stars in the sky. Want to know which star in the sky is Mars? No problem, just type in Mars and the app will tell you where to look. It’s really quite incredible. It’s like having your very own planetarium. Give it a try and let me know what you think of it!
I’m sure you’ll enjoy this app just as much as I do! [Market Link]
