Android Apps of the Week for Feb. 6, 2011

Android Apps of the Week! – February 6, 2011

Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 100,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.

So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.

Spider Man

By: DroidHen
Cost: FREE

This isn’t the same Spider Man you are thinking of! This is an addictive game where you are a Spider Man who needs to use your spider web to swing from one cliff to another. The cliffs get smaller and more difficult as you progress through the game. You also have to adjust your strategy based on the direction of the wind and it’s speed. It’s a really fun and exciting game.

Just go to your “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “Spider Man”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore below for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]

Urbanspoon

By: Urbanspoon Team
Cost: FREE

Can’t decide where you want to eat today? I know it happens to me all the time! That’s why I started using Urbanspoon to help me by suggesting random restaurants in my area. All you have to do is open the App and Shake your phone. It will randomly select a restaurant for you to try out in your city. Don’t like the suggestion? Then just shake your phone again and it’ll give you another recommendation. In the mood for a specific type of restaurant like Chinese, American, or Italian? No problem… You also have the option to lock in a specifc type of restaurant so that the suggestions are only the type of food you are in the mood for. It’s a fun app that will help you try out some new restaurants in your area. So try it out one of these days and I hope you enjoy your meals! [Market Link]

Google Translate

By: Google
Cost: FREE

One of the most impressive tools available on the Android platform has got to be Google Translate. As the name implies, it is a translation app that will assist you with translating text and/or voice from one language to another. Want to figure out how to say “Where is the airport?” in another language? Simply open up the Google Translate app and you can type out the phrase (or click the Microphone icon if you want speak the phrase) and then select what language you want it translated to. It’s really that simple. Google Translate allows you to translate text/voice in over 50 languages. You’ve got to try this one out! I guarantee it will impress you and all your friends. [Market Link]

FxCamera

By: ymst
Cost: FREE

Tired of taking ordinary looking pictures with your camera? Are you ready to get more creative? FxCamera is a fun app that can spice up the pictures you take with the built-in camera on your Android device. Some of the various effects available are: ToyCam, Polandroid, Fisheye, SymmetriCam, and Warhol. Try it out the next time you need to take some pics! [Market Link]

John A

I'm a huge Android fan and also the founder of the DroidLessons website. I started obsessing about the Android platform as soon as I got my HTC EVO phone in mid-2010. Ever since then, I have been obsessed with learning all that I can about the Android OS and sharing that knowledge with my friends and family.
