Android Apps of the Week! – July 10, 2011
Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 200,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.
So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.
NASA App
By: NASA
Cost: FREE
This Friday (July 8th) was the final launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. What better way to commerate this special event than by installing this great app!? This app has thousands of stunning images from NASA, on-demand NASA videos, launch schedules, ISS and Earth orbiting satellites trackers, NASA TV, and much more. Check out the app and find out what NASA has planned for the future of Space exploration.
Just go to your “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “NASA app”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore here for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]
Earth Live Wallpaper
By: unixseb
Cost: FREE
Earth Live Wallpaper is one of the most beautiful Live Wallpapers available on the Android Market. This app allows you to set the background of your device as a live wallpaper of various planets! The default, and my favorite, is the image of Earth rotating. But you also have the option of setting it to any other planet in our solar system (along with some fictional ones from the Star Wars universe). How awesome is that?! In order to activate the wallpaper after installation, you have to go to: Home Screen->Click Menu Button->Wallpapers->Live Wallpapers and then select “EarthRot”. [Market Link]
Blast Monkeys
By: Yobonja
Cost: FREE
Blast Monkeys is a simple and highly addictive game that is suitable for any age. The goal of the game is for you to shoot a monkey (named Moki) through a canon to get some bananas in the sky. Moki is a hungry monkey, and only one thing can fill his rumbling belly. BANANAS! Help Moki fly through fun and creative obstacles in search of a giant bunch of bananas. In order to make him really full, and to get the highest score possible, collect the three elusive individual bananas on each level. This is a great little game to help you pass the time. Hope you enjoy it! [Market Link]
WebMD for Android
By: Healthagen
Cost: FREE
WebMD is a must-have app for any Android device! This app allows you to have 24/7 access to health information. This can come in especially handy when you need a symptom checker, doctor finder, and medical reference tool. So the next time you are feeling sick, you can input your symptoms and get an idea of what might be ailing you. Of course, this should NOT be used as a professional opinion for medical advice… But it helps when you are trying to figure out what’s wrong before you head to the doctors office. Another nice feature is the doctor finder that shows you the closest appropriate healthcare providers to your current location or any location you choose. In addition, WebMD also gives you access to first aid information without having to be connected wirelessly – critical if you don’t have Internet access in the time of need.I hope this app comes in handy for you!
