Android Apps of the Week! – March 13, 2011
Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 100,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.
So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.
Words with Friends
Words with Friends is a wildy popular word game that has been around on the iPhone market for quite some time. It has finally been ported over to Android so now you can play this game with both your Droid and iPhone friends! It’s pretty much just like Scrabble and you can play it live with your friends regardless of where they are. Check out the game and find out why millions are addicted to it!
Just go to your “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “Words with Friends”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore here for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]
PhotoWall Live Wallpaper
By: Larva Labs Ltd.
PhotoWall Live Wallpaper is one of the coolest Live Wallpapers available on the Android Market. This app allows you to set your own photos as a live wallpaper! It will look up the photos on your phone’s camera gallery and Facebook then have it play as the wallpaper on your device. How awesome is that?! You’ve got to give this one a try! It will definitely impress your friends. In order to activate the wallpaper after installation, you have to go to: Home Screen->Click Menu Button->Wallpapers->Live Wallpapers and then select “PhotoWall Live Wallpaper”. [Market Link]
JEFIT – Workout, Fitness, GymLog
By: Jefit Inc.
JEFIT is like having a Personal Workout Assistant on your Android device. If you enjoy going to the gym and working out then I highly recommend this app. It was designed by Fitness trainers and they put together a great piece of software. Here are some of the features included with JEFIT:
- Workout Planner
- Exercise Database (full of images and instructions)
- Progress Tracking System
- Workout Calendar
- Much more
In short, this app will allow you to throw out that old workout notebook and stop watch! [Market Link]
iTriage Mobile Health
iTriage is a must-have app for any Android device! This app was built by doctors to help you make better healthcare decisions. iTriage works as a symptom checker, doctor finder, and medical reference tool. So the next time you are feeling sick, you can input your symptoms and get an idea of what might be ailing you. Of course, this should NOT be used as a professional opinion for medical advice… But it helps when you are trying to figure out what’s wrong before you head to the doctors office. Another nice feature is doctor finder that shows you the closest appropriate healthcare providers to your current location or any location you choose. I hope this app comes in handy for you!
