Android Apps of the Week! – Oct. 23, 2011
Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 200,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.
So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.
Angry Birds Seasons: Ham’o’ween!
By: Rovio Mobile Ltd.
The folks at Rovio have done it again! They just released another version of their ridiculously fun Angry Birds game with a Halloween twist! If you are a fan of the original Angry Birds then you are going to love this one. Pursue the pigs through 30 levels filled with pumpkin patches, exploding jack-o-lanterns, and creepy skeletons, lit by a full moon and eerie lantern light. You’ll get some unexpected help from a BRAND NEW BIRD – he starts out small, but don’t let his looks fool you! Complete all the levels to find some special tricks and treats!
Just go to the “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “Angry Birds Seasons”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore here for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]

Okay, this one was really painful for me to post here and recommend to my readers! But I had too, simply for the fun/strange factor. This app will actually make your Android launcher screen resemble an iPhone launcher screen. Yes, you read that right! An iPhone emulator for Android. Why the heck would anyone running an Android want to do that!? I have no idea. But, apparently, there are some that think it would be fun because the app already has close to 50,000 downloads! So, for those of you who want to try it out and make your Android look like an iPhone… go for it. But shame on you! LOL. You’ll never see this app on my device! [Market Link]
Haunted House HD
By: DualBoot Games
Haunted House HD Live Wallpaper is a beautiful live wallpaper that features a creepy haunted house. Now, I normally only recommend free apps, but this one is well worth the $1.99 if you take a look at all the features available in this live wallpaper. Explore a haunted house full of ghosts, flickering lights, paranormal activity, and many other surprises just waiting to leap out at you! Customize every part of the scene, including your own custom message for the mailbox and door. Choose your style of pumpkins, and decide if you want to see the inside or outside of the haunted house. You can also hide or show the items in the scene to decorate your haunted house for Halloween, making it as spooky or as fun as you like.
Give it a try and see how great it looks on your smartphone! In order to activate the wallpaper after installation, you have to go to: Home Screen->Click Menu Button->Wallpapers->Live Wallpapers and then select “Haunted House HD”. [Market Link]
Tired of the boring old lockscreen on your Android device? MagicLocker is a Lockscreen app which aims to provide users with more colorful and flexible Lockscreen choices by applying different themes. As soon as you install this app, you’ll get the ability to select and enjoy countless choices of Lockscreens! The only con to this app is that it uses ads in the notification bar. I really hate those… but it’s a free app so they need to put ads in there somewhere to make money. If you want to avoid the ads, give WidgetLocker a try instead for $1.99. But if you don’t mind the ads and want the ability to change your lockscreen themes… this MagicLocker app is for you. [Market Link]
