Android Apps of the Week! – Sept. 18, 2011
Welcome to another edition of DroidLessons.com’s “Android Apps of the Week!”. The plan is to compile a list of my favorite apps and share them with you on the Sunday of every week. It will give you plenty of time to try out the apps and then also something to look forward to on a weekly basis. It’s always fun to learn about the latest and greatest apps out there. The Android market has over 200,000 apps and therefore it’s not always easy finding quality apps via the Android Market. My hope is to save you some time by sharing and informing you of the quality apps that I have found over the many months of using and teaching on the Android platform.
So, without further ado, I present to you this week’s edition of “Android Apps of the Week!”.
Star Legends
By: Spacetime Studios
Cost: FREE
Star Legends is a new Sci-Fi Multiplayer Online Game and the second in the “Legends” franchise by Spacetime Studios. In this vast online world, you’ll join millions of players from around the world on futuristic adventures through hijacked space ships, alien infested asteroids, and highly advanced science labs enshrouded in mystery. Grab your double flash guns and your nanofibre vest and carve out your reputation among the stars! Check out the video below for a preview of the game play.
Just go to your “Market” icon on your phone and click the search button and type in “Star Legends”. Install the app and start having some fun! I’ve also included a link to the Android Market Webstore here for those of you that want to install it via the web. [Market Link]
Paper Camera
By: JFDP Labs LTD
Cost: $1.99
This app is by FAR one of my favorite apps in the market. And you know I normally only recommend FREE apps… but this one is worth every penny. This app converts your boring old camera into one of the coolest and stylish camera lenses. It will give you real time cartoon and painting effects displayed on your camera feed! This is the ultimate collection of cartoon/sketch/comic book/half tone/noir/neon and many other effects painted directly in your camera, no more boring post-effects, it’s all real time, you simply won’t stop wandering, wherever you are, having a look at things and cartoonizing them!
You can waive your phone around and see the world change before your eyes, take pictures using any of the stylish cartoon effects or apply them to your existing photos. You’ve seriously got to give one a try… My app pick of the month! [Market Link]
Google+ (Google Plus)
By: Google Inc.
Cost: FREE
Facebook has some new competition! Google+ for mobile makes sharing the right things with the right people a lot simpler. Huddle lets you send super-fast messages to the people you care about most. With your permission, Instant Upload automatically puts the photos and videos you take into a private album in the cloud, so you can share them anytime, from anywhere. And no matter where you are, the stream lets you stay in the loop about what your friends are sharing and where they’re checking in.
Google+ is still in active development and not yet available to everyone. You need an invitation to the beta in order to be able to sign in. No problem though… I’ve got plenty of Google+ Invites available so just leave a comment at the bottom of this page and I’ll send you one! [Market Link]
