How to take a screenshot on the EVO Design 4G

34

Most Android phones require Root access and/or an app in order to be able to take a screenshot of your phone’s display. Well, that’s not the case on the HTC EVO Design 4G! HTC was kind enough to provide the ability to take a screenshot easily without any third-party software! You heard correctly… no root or third-party paid app required. This method is totally free and simple! Just follow the steps below to start taking screen shots on your HTC EVO Design 4G.

Instructions:

1. Hold down the POWER button and then press the HOME button.

2. That’s it! Seriously, it’s that easy! You’ll see a message appear on the screen that says “screenshot saved to Camera shots”. You can then go to your Gallery app to see the screenshots that you have captured.

Now go try it out and start capturing some cool images of your Android screens! Leave us a comment if you have any questions.

Ever since then, I have been obsessed with learning all that I can about the Android OS and sharing that knowledge with my friends and family.

How long do you hold the power and home buttons? I tried it and it would just bring up the power options then take me to the home screen.

Do you have the “EVO Design 4G”? This does not work on the older “EVO 4G” model.

I don’t have the design 4G… I have the second Evo, the EVO 3D and it works for me.

You have to hold them both at the same time…

Thanks that’s what i was looking for. It’s cool that it’s built in and you don’t have to install a separate app.

does this screenshot ability come after an update of some sort?

    • John A. 03/24/2012, 1:27 pm:

Yes, you’ll want to make sure your phone is running the latest version of the software. Click Menu button -> Settings -> System Updates -> HTC software update

I’ve been trying and still can’t do it I have the EVO 4g and I made sure I did as everyone said pls help I would really love to screen shot.

    • John A. 04/21/2012, 1:30 pm:

These instructions are for the “EVO Design 4G” not the older “EVO 4G”. You would need an app like “Screenshot it” if these instructions don’t work on your device.

  9. t 05/01/2012, 7:52 am:

Hold the power button for a second then just tap the home button. If you hold them both too long it won’t work.

  12. Ashley 06/06/2012, 2:36 am:

Hey Ive been trying it and its not workin for me I have the evo 4g

    • John A. 06/06/2012, 5:35 pm:

Hi Ashley. This method works on the “EVO Design 4G”. It sounds like you have the original EVO 4G which is an older model and does not have this feature. In your case, you would need an app to take a screenshot. Search for the app “Screenshot it” and give that a try instead.

Thank You So much! I have been looking for this for weeks. Most websites say it’s not possible without rooting my phone. I didn’t want to have to do that. So, thanks!

  14. Krissy 06/16/2012, 11:30 am:

FInally found how to do it on my Evo Design 4G. I push the Power button until I feel something pop…not going all the way down and then hit the Home button and it saves!

  15. ashley 06/16/2012, 5:54 pm:

Mine used to work but now it doesn’t save the pictures. It sais it saves but when i go to my gallery they aren’t there.

Mine works but I cant find it in camera shots. Help.

    • rborchert 08/15/2012, 9:00 pm:

That’s because it isn’t a camera shot. In Gallery I have a Camera album, and a Screenshots album. The screenshots are in the Screenshots album.

      • name 08/16/2012, 1:15 am:
