Most Android phones require Root access and/or an app in order to be able to take a screenshot of your phone’s display. Well, that’s no longer the case for the HTC One S! With the One S you can take a screenshot easily without any third-party apps! You heard correctly… no root or third-party paid apps required. This is now a stock feature on Android 4 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich). This method is totally free and simple! There are actually two different screenshot methods available for the One S. Just follow the steps below to start taking screen shots on your HTC One S.
Instructions:
Method 1:
1. Hold down the POWER button and then press the HOME button.
2. That’s it! Seriously, it’s that easy! You’ll see a message appear on the screen that says “screenshot saved to Camera shots”. Your screenshot will be in your DCIM (Camera) directory. You can then go to your Gallery app to see the screenshots that you have captured.
Method 2:
1. Hold down the POWER button and then press the VOLUME DOWN button. (hold the buttons for a second or two)
2. That’s it for this method too! You’ll see a message appear on the screen that says “screenshot saved to Camera shots”. With this method, your screenshot will appear in the directory /Pictures/Screenshots. You can also go to your Gallery app to see the screenshots that you have captured.
NOTE: Method 2 is a standard feature on Android 4 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich). I’ve included both methods here in case one works and the other doesn’t. Just try either one of them and see which one works for you!
Now go try it out and start capturing some cool images of your Android screens! Leave us a comment if you have any questions.

Just tried Method 1 on HTC Desire S (Android Gingerbread 2.3.5). It works! Thanks!
Method 1 works great. I found method 2 on another site and it crashed my phone (HTC One S) Took ages to get it rebooted again, don’t try Method 2!
Thank you! Just tried it with HTC one X, it worked. 😀
First one worked but not the second. Cheers.
Sensation XE running ICS
Method 1 works fine on HTC One X.
Tried Method 2 and phone went on vibration and got restarted.
I installed an application developed by myself. The screenshots works for two screens but no more than that. It always pops up the dialog saying “Power off, Aireplane mode, Restart.” Can someone help on this?
Thanks,
Lee

Hi, I have a problem. Previously my phone had no problems capturing a screen shot. But now, it is only taking a partial shot and cutting off the bottom of the screen shot. Any reasons why it is doing this?

Works great and a big thank you to John for showing us less techno guys how it’s done! I’d found screen shots in my gallery but had no idea how I was doing it by accident. Very easy, thanks again! Bookmarking this page and taking a screen shot of it 😀
My phone only responds to the first method but when I do, it says an error occured on my SD card. Please help?
Thanks, for the information! 🙂
I am very impressed! Last week I down loaded an app to do screen shots and it didn’t work bc it said my phone needed to be “rooted”. I just tried this the same way but without the app and it WORKED! The first way powered off my phone but the second way worked perfectly! I’m so glad!!!!!
Awesome! Thanks.
Haha – you don’t know how many stupid apps I tried to install before learning this.
Method 1 on One X btw
Awesome!
Thank you my friend!
Both methods work here.
